Provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, this resource provides an overview of the rights that parents have in special education, including confidential information, consent for evaluations, and rights pertaining to disciplinary action. 

Disability Discrimination FAQ - US Dept. of Education

Exceptional Children's Assistance Center

The ECAC provides assistance to NC families who are navigating the special education system for the first time at no cost. â€‹

Legal Aid of NC's Parent Support Map

Includes regional and condition-specific support for families navigating public education in North Carolina. Support is available for general and special needs. 

File a Complaint - US Dept. of Education

Provides the proper procedure for filing a complaint with the Office for Civil Rights.

The Learning Disabilities Association of America provides a guide for K-12 educators on how to support students with learning disabilities, emphasizing individualized instruction and classroom accommodations. 

An IEP Meeting Guide for Educators - LDA

Provided by the Learning Disabilities Association of America, this resource equips K-12 educators with valuable materials to prepare for IEP

meetings, while clarifying their role as key stakeholders in the IEP process.   

The Education Justice Alliance (EJA) is a Raleigh-based advocacy group in NC. This resource enables students, parents, and educators in the Wake County Public School System to file complaints against school resource officers that have violated the rights of disabled students. 

Know Your Rights Training - EJA 

The Education Justice Alliance (EJA) offers a "Know Your Rights" form, empowering students and families with critical knowledge of their legal rights when confronted by school resource officers. 

The Disability Rights and Defense Fund (DREDF) outlines the ongoing Texas v. Becerra lawsuit, a critical legal challenge regarding the enforcement of Section 504 protections for individuals with disabilities. DREDF also provides resources for individuals to take action and assist in defending these protections.
